The worst is past and all there is left to do is wait. It is almost certain many houses were burned, but out of our church group only a few. There is almost certainly a couple homes lost, but not as many as we thought.
Our church has property where we are building a new building. It was completely overrun by fire on all sides, trapping 3 men who almost certainly saved the property, building, and several outbuildings. They were not able to get out but ran around and put fires out. Disconnected gas lines, etc. one tank exploded and burned a shed, but the main structures should be safe.
The fire continues to burn ALL around, on every side of the town of Kamiah.
The lumber mill is burning. UPDATE: The lumber mill did not burn. A couple of log decks caught fire and a man (unknown at this point) commandeered a log loader and at peril to his own life separated the log decks by removing flaming logs. The collective hats of our community and families are off to him for saving much needed 65 jobs!
It is not contained at all, but the wind quit blowing so hopefully it will slow down and be controllable soon.
We initial thought more homes were lost than actually have been. Sheds, shops, and outbuildings mostly.
Thanks for all the prayers and keep praying for rain. There is still a hope of a cold front coming.
